Poetry as Ancestor Work

Poetry as Ancestor Work is a narrative poetry workshop that focuses on writing about your ancestors and finding your own story through channeling your ancestral team. The exercises specialize in considering photographs as inspirational imagery to write poetic stories, and then using blackout poetry to find your own story within your work.

Lauren Parker is a fourth generation female breadwinner descended from male charlatans, and thus has grown up to become a very educated liar. An award winning poet, she is the author of Spells for Success (Simon Element 2025), Dark Way Down (Animal Heart Press, 2025), and We Are Now the Thing in the Woods (Bottlecap, 2023).

Her work focuses on the intersection of class, queerness, and the occult.
